Washington, D.C.–The One Big Beautiful Bill Act has been introduced with the aim of reducing taxes for American workers. The legislation seeks to eliminate taxes on tips and overtime pay, a move that aligns with President Trump’s promises. It also aims to ease administrative burdens on gig workers and small businesses.
“This legislation enables the tipped and hourly workers who keep our economy running to keep more of each hard-earned paycheck,” said Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho).
Key components of the bill include removing taxes on tips for millions of tipped workers and eliminating taxes on overtime for many hourly workers across America. Additionally, it seeks to repeal certain IRS reporting requirements imposed by Democrats on gig workers. The bill proposes increasing the 1099-MISC threshold, which would reduce paperwork for small businesses and their employees.
Various organizations have expressed support for different aspects of the bill. AICPA noted its appreciation for the inclusion of its priorities in the Senate’s version of the bill, specifically mentioning changes to Form 1099-K thresholds and adjustments for inflation.
“The Coalition for 1099-K Fairness strongly supports the Senate Finance package’s inclusion of language to raise the 1099-K reporting threshold,” stated a representative from the Coalition. They highlighted that this provision would prevent a lower $600 threshold from taking effect in 2026 as planned under previous legislation.
