Boundary County Nursing Home received a perfect overall rating of 5 out of 5 during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. This rating surpasses the Idaho nursing home average of 3.2 in that period.

With 20 beds available, the nursing center offered 57 fewer beds compared to the average in Idaho as of the first quarter of 2026. They supported an average of 17.9 residents during that time.

Boundary County Nursing Home also reported zero fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the older adult population in the United States is rising while younger populations decline. From 2020 to 2024, Americans ages 65 and older saw a 13% increase, as the population under age 18 fell by 1.7%. The country’s population of older adults has risen steeply over the last century, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that close to half of Americans in this age group—about 28 million people—are likely to need long-term services and supports. The report also anticipated that more than a third may eventually need care in a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
