University of Idaho announced on May 22 that Brooke Blevins has been appointed as the interim provost and executive vice president. Blevins will begin her new responsibilities immediately.
The appointment is significant as it places Blevins in a key leadership position during a period of ongoing academic initiatives at the university.
Blevins has served as dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences since 2022. In this role, she led efforts to expand educational opportunities, strengthen partnerships with industry and philanthropic organizations, and enhance the college’s research activities. Her tenure included overseeing the development of a fully online Doctor of Education in Learning, Leadership and Innovation program aimed at serving organizational leaders throughout Idaho.
“Brooke is a thoughtful, collaborative leader who understands the importance of student success, academic excellence and strong partnerships across Idaho,” University of Idaho President Scott Green said. “She has a proven record of advancing innovation and expanding opportunity, and I am confident she will provide steady leadership for the university in this important role.”
In her previous position, Blevins worked closely with state education officials including the Idaho State Board of Education. She testified before the Idaho Legislature on matters related to K-12 education, educator preparation, and educational leadership. She also established collaborations with several state agencies such as the Department of Education, Division of Career and Technical Education, Workforce Council, and Department of Health and Welfare.
Blevins holds bachelor’s degrees in economics and speech communication along with a Master’s degree from Trinity University. She earned her doctorate from The University of Texas at Austin in curriculum and instruction. Before entering higher education administration roles at Baylor University—including chairing its Department of Curriculum and Instruction—she taught high school in Texas.
Blevins replaces Torrey Lawrence who served as provost since 2020; Lawrence will return to a faculty position at University of Idaho. An internal search for an interim dean for EHHS will begin immediately.
