U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) has announced several updates to his committee staff in Washington, D.C.
Mary Kate Carter returns to the committee as International Trade Policy Advisor. Carter previously worked at Lot Sixteen as vice president of government relations, co-leading the firm’s trade practice. Her experience includes serving as associate manager for international policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and as a professional staff member for the committee when it was chaired by Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). She holds a master’s degree in International Trade and Investment Policy from The George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in French and International Trade from Clemson University.
Michael Hawthorne joins as Tax Counsel. He comes from Squire Patton Boggs, where he was an associate in the Public Policy Practice Group focusing on tax and trade legislation. Hawthorne has also served as a law clerk on the Senate Judiciary Committee under Ranking Member Grassley, the House Ways and Means Committee under Ranking Member Kevin Brady (R-Texas), and the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations under Chairman Rob Portman (R-Ohio). He earned both his J.D. and B.A. in Political Science from The George Washington University.
Alexander Hughes is joining as Press Assistant after graduating from Harvard University with a degree in Government. Hughes previously interned at the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party under Chairman John Moolenaar (R-Michigan) and at National Review.
Anna Rose Moore will serve as Senior Health Policy Advisor. She most recently worked for the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions under Chairman Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana), advising on commercial health insurance issues and pharmacy benefit manager reform. Moore holds both an M.P.H. and a B.S. in Public Health from Georgia Southern University.
