U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) spoke at an executive session regarding the nominations of Joseph Barloon and Brian Morrissey, Jr. for key government positions.
The session focused on considering Barloon for Deputy United States Trade Representative and Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Morrissey for General Counsel of the Treasury Department.
Crapo emphasized, “We meet today to consider favorably reporting the nominations of Joe Barloon, who is nominated to serve as Deputy USTR and Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Brian Morrissey, who is nominated to serve as the General Counsel of the Treasury Department.”
The meeting provided members with a chance to discuss these nominations before proceeding with a hearing later in the day. Crapo noted that Barloon had expressed his intention to collaborate with WTO Members for U.S. interests, citing his previous experience as General Counsel to the U.S. Trade Representative as vital in understanding market access roles.
Crapo added about Morrissey: “Building on prior Treasury Department experience, Mr. Morrissey is well-suited to provide critical legal and policy advice.” He praised Morrissey’s qualifications and bipartisan support from past Treasury General Counsels.
Both nominees received Crapo’s endorsement: “I will vote in favor of both nominations and I encourage all of my colleagues on the Committee to do the same.”
