Dylynn Groves, a standout from Gonzaga Preparatory School, has signed with the Idaho men’s basketball team, the university announced on May 15. He is the fifth high school recruit to join head coach Alex Pribble’s staff this offseason.
The addition of Groves highlights the team’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its roster for future seasons. His signing brings the total number of new freshmen recruits for the upcoming season to five.
“Dylynn is a unique and special pickup for us,” Pribble said Friday. “He is a high level player and incredibly tough young man who has been battling injuries much of his high school career. When we dug into the type of person he is – his competitiveness, his personal drive, his desire to be great, and combined that with the talent and production that he showed when he was healthy – we thought he was a no-brainer to bring into the program. We will give him the resources to rehab and to develop, and we believe he will be a big part of this program’s success in the future.”
Groves played an important role in leading Gonzaga Prep back to its second consecutive state title game appearance despite dealing with injuries during his senior year. The 6-foot-5 forward anchored a defense that allowed only 47.3 points per game after returning from injury in December. In one notable performance following his return, Groves scored 32 points in just nine minutes—a stretch that helped earn him First Team All-League honors in the Greater Spokane League.
His family also has ties to Big Sky basketball; brothers Jacob and Tanner both played at Eastern Washington University before moving on to professional careers overseas.
Groves joins former teammate Ryan Carney as well as Jalen Williams, TJ Wal, Nolan Newman-Gomez among incoming freshmen for Idaho’s 2026-27 squad. Transfers Kase Wynott, Hudson Ward, Diego Trejo-Delgado, Brady Kennison, and Ryan Lafferty have also joined for next season.
