The Idaho Vandals women’s tennis team lost to Eastern Washington University with a score of 1-6, concluding their regular season on April 18.
This match marked the end of the regular competition for Idaho, who finished with a record of 10-10. The result sets the stage for their upcoming participation in the Big Sky Conference Women’s Tennis Championships, scheduled for April 22–26.
Idaho started strong by securing the doubles point. They earned a 6-2 victory and another win on court three with Soha Sighn and her partner taking a 6-4 result. However, Eastern Washington responded during singles play, winning all six matches to secure the overall team victory.
In doubles competition, Zoe Pradel and Olivia Marais from Eastern Washington defeated their Idaho opponents 6-1. Other Idaho pairings managed wins against Sara Vasic/Anait Arutiunian (6-2) and Leandra Nizetic/Maria Lopez (6-4). During singles play, Leandra Nizetic defeated her Idaho opponent in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-3), while Anait Arutiunian also won after a close tiebreaker (6-3, 7-6 [9-7]). Additional singles victories came from Zoe Pradel (6-4, 6-3), Veronika Gayevyk (6-4, 1-6, 6-2), Olivia Marais (6-3, 6-1), and Aneliss Zamfirescu (0–6, 6–3, [10–8]).
With only days before postseason play begins at the Big Sky Conference tournament in Phoenix next week from April 22–26, Idaho will look to regroup quickly. More details about their championship schedule are expected soon.
