The Idaho Congressional Delegation has sent a letter to U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, urging the department to allocate funds from Section 50305 of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act directly to America 250 (A250) commissions in all states and territories. The request is aimed at supporting local history organizations as part of the upcoming 250th anniversary celebration of America’s founding.

The delegation emphasized the importance of community involvement in these commemorations. “Over the past several years, we have advocated for meaningful investment in America 250 (A250) activities, with a focus on ensuring celebrations are rooted in local communities through the support of more than 21,000 history organizations across the country,” the letter reads in part.

They further stated, “Doing so will empower communities across the nation to participate in, and shape, commemorations reflective of their individual histories and contributions to our shared national story,” adding that “In Idaho, partnerships between communities and local history organizations have proven to be an essential asset in educating young Idahoans and preserving our state’s unique history.”
