Idaho men’s tennis secured a place in the Big Sky Tournament with a decisive victory over Weber State, according to an April 13 announcement.
The achievement marks the second consecutive year that Idaho has earned a berth in the conference tournament. The team’s performance comes after navigating a challenging season with injuries and lineup changes.
In recent matches, Idaho faced Portland State, Portland, Utah, and Weber State. Despite falling to Portland State (1-6), Portland (2-5), and Utah (3-4), the Vandals ended their regular season run with an emphatic 6-1 win against Weber State. This victory improved their record to 8-16 overall.
Head Coach Raleigh Grossbaum highlighted freshman Valentine Glasl’s contribution during the match against Weber State. “The MVP of this match, Valentine Glasl, freshman from Austria, was incredible,” Grossbaum said. He recounted asking Glasl about his confidence before putting him into play: “What do you think? If I put you in, do you think you’re going to get it done? How confident are you?” According to Grossbaum, Glasl replied confidently: “Coach. I got this.” The duo of Glasl and Janson then secured a strong doubles victory.
Throughout these contests, Idaho achieved notable milestones including its best finish against Utah this season and its first Division One doubles win as a team for the year. The team also competed in twelve nonconference Division One matches during the season.
Looking ahead, Idaho will conclude its regular season on Sunday, April 19 at Northern Arizona University before entering postseason play.
