The Idaho Vandals men’s golf team finished in second place at the Big Sky Conference Championship, which concluded on April 29 at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona. The team posted a total score of 14-under-par 850 after three rounds.
This result marks the best finish for the Vandals since their championship win in 2016. The team opened with a round of nine-over-par 291 but improved with scores of 280 and 279 in the following rounds, securing their runner-up position behind Sacramento State, which finished at 841.
Four Idaho golfers placed inside the top fifteen individually. One golfer led Idaho by finishing fifth overall with a five-under-par total of 211, including a final-round score of three-under-par 69. Another tied for sixth at four-under-par 212 after rebounding from an opening round of 75 to shoot consecutive rounds under par. A third Vandal tied for ninth at two-under-par, while another secured thirteenth place at one-under-par.
Head coach David Nuhn said, “I am proud of the battle today. I knew we had to apply some pressure at the start of the round, and I felt like we did that, but sometimes it doesn’t materialize in the end.” He continued: “I am grateful to our four seniors and the effort that they have given to our program. I am going to miss the time I’ve spent with them as we’ve traveled, but I know there are great things coming for these guys and I am going to be their biggest fan.”
Sacramento State won the team title behind performances from Jai Bahl and Gabriel Smith; both shot nine-under-par totals of 207. Smith earned Medalist honors by winning a playoff.
The Vandals’ season included two tournament victories during fall competition as well as two runner-up finishes.
