The Idaho Vandals track and field team will travel to Spokane, Washington for the Whitworth Last Chance Meet on May 6, according to a May 5 announcement. This meet marks the final regular season competition before the team heads into the 2026 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
The event is important as it gives athletes one more opportunity to compete ahead of the conference championship. Both men’s and women’s teams are expected to participate in several events during this meet.
On the men’s side, Idaho will have a strong presence in the 800-meter race with a deep lineup aiming to set an early tone leading up to championship week. In field events, shot put and discus will be led by experienced throwers, while Caden Hottman joins others in hammer throw after consistent performances throughout the season. Senior Blake Strugis returns for javelin competition after receiving two Big Sky Athlete of the Week honors this year and currently holds the longest throw in conference.
For women’s events, Idaho will be represented in both distance races and throws. The women’s shot put group has contributed to a national ranking of twenty-third for Idaho in that event this outdoor season. Several athletes are scheduled for multiple throwing events including hammer throw, discus, and javelin.
After this meet, Idaho’s track and field teams plan to prepare for the upcoming Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championship taking place from May 13 through May 16 in Portland.
