Lewiston Historic Preservation Commission announces 2026 Orchid Award winners

The Lewiston Historic Preservation Commission announced on Apr. 17 the recipients of the 2026 Orchid Awards, which honor contributions to historic preservation in the city. A ceremony to celebrate and present certificates to the winners will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 9, at the Territorial Capital Building located at 45 3rd Street in downtown Lewiston.

The awards recognize individuals and organizations for their work in preserving Lewiston’s historical and architectural heritage. The Nez Perce County Historical Society & Museum will also be open during the event for attendees to view exhibits.

Steven Branting and Spencer Branting received recognition in Cultural Heritage Preservation for their efforts in establishing and curating the Lewiston School District Museum. Mark Alexander was honored with a Heritage Stewardship award for his ongoing dedication to maintaining architecturally significant structures within Lewiston.

Alexander Investors LLC earned an award for Contribution to Historic Preservation following its rehabilitation and remodel of a property at 1209 Main Street. Honorable mentions were given to Suzanne Brown (305 Prospect Avenue), Asher Martin RE LLC (524 Main Street), Henry & Peggy Heusinkveld (725 Prospect Avenue), and Austin & Amanda Swopes (804 13th Avenue).

The commission said it hopes community members will join them at the upcoming ceremony to recognize these achievements in historic preservation.
