Idaho Vandals secured an 83-80 overtime win against the Cal Poly Mustangs in San Luis Obispo, California. The victory marks Idaho’s first overtime win since March 2025, when they defeated Weber State.
Kolton Mitchell led the Vandals with 31 points, making six of his twelve attempts from three-point range and collecting a career-high six rebounds. His performance was pivotal in a game where both teams struggled offensively in the first half, combining for just 16 made field goals out of 61 attempts.
The Vandals built an 18-point lead midway through the second half following a strong offensive run but saw their advantage dwindle as Cal Poly mounted a comeback. The Mustangs tied the game with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
In the extra period, Cal Poly scored first, but Idaho responded with a six-point run. Mitchell hit a critical three-pointer with seven seconds remaining and sealed the outcome with two free throws.
“This is the first overtime game for Idaho since the Vandals took down Weber State in Moscow last season (3/1/25),” according to team officials.
With this result, Idaho improved its season record to 8-4 while Cal Poly dropped to 5-9. The team also extended its streak of games with at least five made three-pointers to 58 consecutive contests and surpassed 450 rebounds after twelve games for the first time since the 2017-18 season. Additionally, it was noted that “for the first time this year, Idaho finished with a tie in the rebounding battle (45-45).”
Idaho will conclude its California road trip against CSU Bakersfield on December 23 at 2:00 p.m. PST. The game will be available on ESPN+, Vandal Radio Network, and Varsity Network App.
Student tickets for all home events across football, basketball, volleyball, and soccer remain free of charge through Idaho Athletics’ ongoing initiative.
