For the first quarter of 2026, Orchard View Post Acute emerged as the nursing home with the most beds in Nez Perce County, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Reports indicate that the facility offered 127 available beds, surpassing the Nez Perce County average by 40 beds for the same period. An average of 64 residents received care at the center during this quarter.
The CMS assigned Orchard View Post Acute an overall rating of 2 out of 5, below Idaho’s statewide nursing home average rating of 3.2.
For this period, Life Care Center of Lewiston ranked second in size locally with 121 available beds, while Lewiston Transitional Care of Cascadia was third, offering 96 beds.
By the end of first quarter 2026, Orchard View Post Acute had incurred one fine totaling $16,790 and received one penalty.
Altogether, Nez Perce County counted five for-profit nursing homes in Idaho.
Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the share of older adults in the U.S. continues to rise while the population of younger age groups falls. From 2020 to 2024, the country’s residents age 65 and above grew by 13%, compared to a 1.7% decline for those under 18. Historically, Americans ages 65 and older expanded substantially from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
Research published in 2021 indicates almost half of those age 65 and older—about 28 million people—are likely to require long-term assistance or support. The findings also suggest that more than one-third could eventually need nursing facility care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
