The U.S. Senate Finance Committee has approved three key nominations for positions within the Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Jonathan Greenstein was advanced to be a Deputy Under Secretary of the Treasury by a narrow vote of 14-13. Donald Korb was nominated to serve as Chief Counsel for the IRS and Assistant General Counsel in the Department of the Treasury, receiving a 15-12 vote. Derek Theurer was also moved forward for a Deputy Under Secretary role with a 14-13 vote.
Following these votes, Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) commented on the committee’s actions: “I commend the Committee’s action and congratulate each nominee. Mr. Greenstein will face the important task of restoring key international organizations like the International Monetary Fund to their original missions. Mr. Korb’s previous experience as Chief Counsel of the IRS will equip him to hit the ground running when he returns to the role and to ensure the tax code is enforced fairly and impartially. As a veteran of Capitol Hill, I am sure Mr. Theurer will keep Congress well-informed about Treasury’s work as the Department continues to implement our recent tax cuts for working families. I am confident in each nominee’s ability to serve Americans’ best interest and implement the President’s agenda and look forward to their confirmation by the full Senate.”
