Senator Mike Crapo, chair of the Senate Committee on Finance and longtime advocate for Idahoans, addressed recent events and legislative priorities in a series of tweets posted between May 27 and May 28, 2026.
On May 27, Senator Crapo expressed concern for first responders and residents affected by a local disaster, stating, “My thoughts are with the several law enforcement officers injured during the devastating fire south of Mountain Home last night, along with the citizens whose property was impacted. I am keeping these brave first responders and the entire Elmore County community in my prayers.”
The following day, he highlighted National Foster Parent Appreciation Month and praised efforts to support children in need: “May is National Foster Parent Appreciation Month, a time to recognize the selfless individuals who open their hearts and homes to children in need. The “A Home for Every Child” initiative, led by Idaho’s own @ACF_Adams as Assistant Secretary of @acfhhs, is transforming the child”.
Later on May 28, Senator Crapo commented on government funding issues in Congress: “The American people should not have to pay the price for Congress’s inability to keep the government funded and open. The Prevent Government Shutdowns Act of 2026 would keep Congress in Washington during a shutdown by restricting congressional travel and limiting floor time to”.
Senator Crapo has consistently advocated for responsible forest management and natural resource protection in Idaho (official website). He grew up in Idaho Falls and has raised five children with his wife Susan. Before serving as chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, he represented Idaho’s Second Congressional District for three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He holds degrees from Brigham Young University and Harvard Law School.
