Senator Mike Crapo announced on May 14 several updates to the staff of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, where he serves as chairman.

The announcement includes the addition of Sam Llewellyn as Professional Staff Member, Sarah Meier as Tax Counsel, and Mike Weiss as Senior Health Policy Advisor. These changes are intended to strengthen the committee’s work in key policy areas.

Llewellyn joins from Senator Tim Scott’s office, bringing experience with both the Finance and Judiciary Committees. He has also worked for Congressman Jake LaTurner and holds a B.A. in Intelligence and Security Studies from The Citadel. Meier comes from her role as counsel and parliamentarian for the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce under Chairman Brett Guthrie. Her previous positions include serving as counsel to the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives and working on tax policy for several members of Congress; she earned her J.D. from University of Nebraska College of Law and a B.A. from University of Wyoming.

Weiss most recently served as health policy director for Senator Todd Young, focusing on issues within the committee’s jurisdiction, after earlier roles with other senators including Pat Toomey and Ron Johnson. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Notre Dame.

Crapo has advocated for Idahoans on issues like responsible forest management, natural resource protection, education access, healthcare affordability, national security priorities, economic growth initiatives, veteran support services, transportation improvements, energy independence efforts and fiscal responsibility according to the official website. He grew up in Idaho Falls with his wife Susan where they raised five children; he previously served three terms representing Idaho’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House before joining the Senate; he earned degrees from Brigham Young University (bachelor’s) and Harvard Law School (Juris Doctor); currently he is chairing this committee according to the official website.
