Senator Mike Crapo, U.S. Senator representing Idaho, posted a series of messages on his social media account in October 2025. His tweets addressed the return of a World War II soldier’s remains to Idaho and recognized World Mental Health Day.
On October 9, 2025, Senator Crapo announced the homecoming of a long-missing service member: “Today, the remains of WWII Army 2nd Lieutenant Charles S. Atteberry, of Wilder, will return home. For almost 80 years, Atteberry’s remains could not be identified, but recent advancements in forensic analysis allowed @dodpaa to positively identify him earlier this year.
I am https://t.co/X6fy16SYWQ“. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) was credited for its role in identifying Atteberry’s remains using modern forensic techniques.
The following day, on October 10, 2025, Senator Crapo highlighted mental health resources in recognition of World Mental Health Day: “On World Mental Health Day, I reaffirm my commitment to supporting mental health services. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please remember that the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 for immediate help. https://t.co/FwhHQllFqu”. The senator emphasized the availability of the national mental health crisis hotline as a resource for those in need.
A third post by Senator Crapo on October 10 included only a link: “https://t.co/mZFNfthm9T”.
Senator Crapo has previously advocated for veterans’ affairs and mental health initiatives as part of his legislative agenda. The identification and return of WWII soldiers’ remains have been ongoing efforts by agencies such as the DPAA to bring closure to families decades after conflicts have ended. Meanwhile, national attention to mental health has increased in recent years with resources like the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline becoming more widely promoted as part of suicide prevention strategies.
