Senator Mike Crapo, chair of the Senate Committee on Finance and a longtime advocate for Idahoans, recently used his social media platform to highlight issues affecting military personnel and veterans. In a series of posts published on May 20 and May 21, 2026, Crapo addressed both Military Appreciation Month and legislative efforts targeting substance use disorder among veterans.

On May 20, Senator Crapo posted: “During Military Appreciation Month, we honor the incredible men and women in uniform who protect our nation. The dedication of our servicemembers, including the brave @124fighterwing, ensures the United States remains a beacon of freedom. The Air National Guard provides 30”. This message underscores his recognition of service members’ contributions during a month dedicated to their appreciation.

The following day, on May 21, Crapo shared a link via Twitter (https://t.co/x7inlZskZe), though no accompanying text was provided in that post.

Later on May 21, Crapo turned attention to veteran health concerns with another tweet: “The ongoing substance use disorder crisis continues to have devastating impacts on our nation’s veterans. Our obligation to veterans does not end when their service does. I am proud to co-lead the bipartisan End Veterans Overdose Act, which passed out of Committee unanimously.” The post highlights bipartisan legislative progress aimed at addressing overdose risks among former service members.

Senator Crapo has an extensive record in public service. He grew up in Idaho Falls and has represented Idaho at multiple levels of government—including three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives for Idaho’s Second Congressional District—before serving in the Senate (official website). He earned degrees from Brigham Young University and Harvard Law School and has advocated for issues such as responsible forest management and natural resource protection (official website). In addition to his legislative work on behalf of veterans and military families, he is known for his leadership as chair of the Senate Committee on Finance (official website).
