The draft Climate Action Plan, a culmination of a years-long effort from a wide range of community participants, is slated to go before City Council for adoption consideration that the regular City Council meeting scheduled for October 3, 2022, at 7 pm.
The draft plan calls for the city to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 with an interim goal of reducing emissions by 56.6% by 2030. To provide a positive community example, City operations would seek to achieve net-zero by 2035. To meet those goals, the plan outlines several key strategies and actions in areas such as power grid decarbonization, building efficiency and electrification, renewable energy, reduction of vehicle trips, waste reduction, water conservation, and augmentation of the urban tree canopy.
The draft of the Climate Action Plan to be considered for adoption is available on the City’s website at https://www.ci.moscow.id.us/1002/Climate-Action-Plan. Those wishing to submit comments to the City Council on the proposed Climate Action Plan may do so by emailing council@ci.moscow.id.us no later than Friday, September 30 at 5 pm.
