The Idaho Vandals track and field team earned ten event wins at the Cougar Classic held at Washington State University’s Mooberry Track on April 24. The competition featured standout performances, including a season-best in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase and a notable time of 26.53 seconds in the women’s 200 meters.
These results reflect continued progress for the Vandals during their outdoor season. The team used this meet to build momentum as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
Among individual highlights, Taylor improved her previous season best from April’s Jeff Rahn Classic by more than a tenth of a second. In men’s sprints, one athlete led three Vandals in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 21.64 seconds, while two teammates set personal records with times of 21.70 and 22.57 seconds respectively. Rethymniotakis impressed in his first career attempt at the men’s 100-meter dash, clocking in at 10.91 seconds to take second place ahead of several Idaho teammates.
The Vandals dominated the women’s long jump by sweeping the top four positions; three athletes finished within just 25 centimeters of their personal bests. Victories also came in both men’s and women’s shot put events, with Idaho finishing first and second on the women’s side thanks to a leading throw of 13.95 meters. Amanda Munoz overcame early fouls to win the triple jump with an effort of 11.87 meters on her final attempt.
Looking ahead, Idaho’s outdoor track and field season will continue next weekend as athletes compete at both Oregon State Invite and Arizona’s Desert Heat Classic.
