Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Idaho

In-state tuition and fees rose 5 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Idaho, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Idaho residents paid $7,864 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $376 more than the $7,488 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 224.3 percent more than residents this year, or $25,500. Their price tag grew 7.1 percent from $23,812 in 2017-18.

About 70 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Idaho residents. About 26 percent are residents of other states and 2 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,424 students received grants or scholarships totaling $11.4 million and 797 students took out student loans totaling more than $4.6 million.

Including all undergraduates (11,841), 6,231 students used grants or scholarships totaling $46.4 million, and 3,932 students took out $27.5 million in federal student loans.
